Looking for a therapist, counsellor or psychologist in Stellenbosch?
Most people use “therapist”, “counsellor” or “psychologist” as a catch-all — it usually means someone I can talk to who knows what they are doing. If that is what brought you here, you are in the right place. One clear distinction is worth making, though.
I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and therapist, not a registered psychologist. My background is in applied psychology — a Graduate Diploma in Counselling through SACAP, a B Comm (Ind Psych) from the University of Stellenbosch, membership of the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA, Reg No PSY7907), and international affiliate registration with the American Psychological Association (Reg No 97099236).
For sixteen years I have worked in private practice in Stellenbosch, with scholars, students and adults. Alongside that, I have been part of multidisciplinary teams at clinics, both locally and internationally.
In practice that means we work through how life is affecting you — anxiety, depression, loneliness, relationships, social pressures, loss, addiction, self-esteem and motivation, questions of meaning and purpose — in conversation, over time.
Different needs are best met by different therapists. Formal psychometric assessment and clinical diagnosis, for example, are the work of a psychologist or psychiatrist. Where that is what will serve you best, I will tell you and help you find the right person.
Not sure which of those you are looking for? Send me a message and we can work out together whether I am the right fit for you.

rising levels of alcohol and substance abuse, and addiction, in our country. More about this
work on my Addiction and Dual Diagnosis page.
