Practice at a glance
The essentials in one place. Fuller answers are on the Approach, Connect and FAQ pages.
- The practice
- Integrated Life Counselling & Therapy. Chris Olivier, counsellor and therapist, Stellenbosch, Western Cape, South Africa.
- What I help with
- Anxiety, depression, loneliness, relationships, loss, addiction and dual diagnosis, trauma and crisis, self-esteem and identity, life transitions, student guidance and support, help for youth at risk, and living with limb loss or disability.
- My approach
- Person-centred, humanistic, and existential: unhurried and conversational, shaped around you.
- Who I see
- Adults, students and scholars from age 16 (for anyone under 18, a parent or guardian's approval is needed first). Family members and loved ones are welcome in their own right. I work with individuals; I don't offer couples counselling as such.
- Where
- In person: Eikehoff Building, Office 42, Ground Floor, 28 Church Street, Stellenbosch 7600. Online by Zoom, with clients worldwide. Home, hospital and rehabilitation-centre visits, where possible, when coming to the practice is difficult.
- Languages
- English and Afrikaans (I also understand Dutch).
- Hours
- Monday to Thursday: 8am to 5pm
Friday: 8am to 3pm
Saturday: 9am to 1pm
Online sessions at the same times, or at other times by request. - Sessions and fees
- Sessions are fifty minutes. R800 in South Africa and the rest of Africa; $65 elsewhere; payable at the session. I am not contracted with medical aid, so payment is for your own account. Please give at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session.
- Qualifications
- Graduate Diploma in Counselling (SACAP); B Comm (Ind Psych), University of Stellenbosch; member of the Psychological Society of South Africa (PsySSA, Reg No PSY7907); international affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA, Reg No 97099236).
- Experience
- Sixteen years in private practice in Stellenbosch, and work in clinics, locally and abroad.
- Scope
- I am a qualified and experienced counsellor and therapist, not a psychiatrist or psychologist. If you need a formal psychometric assessment or a clinical diagnosis, I will say so and help you find the right person. Sessions are confidential, within the usual limits.
- Getting in touch
- WhatsApp or call +27 82 574 1177, email chris@integratedlife.co.za, or use the form on the Connect page. Please don't leave a voicemail. Messages are best sent in the early morning or late afternoon, and I aim to reply within 48 weekday hours. If it is urgent, please say so in your message.
- In an emergency
- This is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in danger right now, and I am unavailable, call emergency services on 112, or the SADAG Suicide Crisis Helpline on 0800 567 567 (free, 24 hours).
